Some projects and gifts I have made in the past.....
This is a quilted table runner I made for my parents for their 49th anniversary. It has 49 individual hexagons, each hand cut, hand stitched and quilted, with a tatted lace motif added to each one.
This is a decorative globe arrangement, made using paper quilling techniques.....rolled yellow roses in a miniature ceramic watering can with a purple butterfly....set on a yellow tatted lace miniature doily. When I was creating in quilling, miniatures were my passion.
These are baby bonnets I made with tatted lace edging in two different styles.
This is a miniature hand woven basket, filled with paper quilled flowers. This is one of my favorite projects, as it marks the accomplishment of a long-held desire to learn how to weave baskets.
This is a Zen garden I created using paper quilled succulents, a paper fringed flower and a seashell. It makes me feel peaceful each time I look at it.
These are some examples of bracelets I made.....
This blue bracelet was crocheted using a corner to corner pattern, done in a long row. I added a Dorset button I made using a hand painted thread by Yarnplayer.
This colorful bracelet was tatted using a simple pattern with beads added in the center joins. This thread was also hand painted by Yarnplayer. It is one of my favorite colorways.
This green bracelet was simply rows of double crochet in a variegated green. The sunflower was tatted with a large size thread with a brown button as the center.
I
learned from watching two very creative and caring people, my parents,
that the most special gift you can give someone is your time.
The
process of thinking about the special person/people, what they like,
why they are important to you, and how they will react when they see
your creation can sometimes be a long one. Spending the time to make
your feelings tangible is what creates a cherished gift.
In 2015, my parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. A couple years before that, I started thinking about what I could make that would show them how special they are to me. I decided on three things.
The
first was a memory quilt (finished size was twin bed), to include tatted lace, a green and blue
color scheme (their favorite colors) and pictures of important
people/events. Each hexagon was individually hand cut, hand stitched
and hand quilted. AND I learned how to print pictures on fabric! That
was fun!
The second was a recreation of their wedding cake in
miniature using paper quilling and tatted lace techniques. This was fun
and a little challenging, as I only had one black and white photo from
1965 to work with.
I asked my sister to help with the third
item. She is a very talented baker. I asked her to
recreate their wedding cake as an actual cake. Considering she was also
working from the same black and white photo, I think she did a great
job!
This is a flower arrangement I made for Mom using paper quilled flowers and a small tatted lace piece under the basket (woven from individual strips of paper).
